Responsible Disclosure
At Tachyon Security, and its subsidiaries (collectively, “Tachyon Security”), we consider the security of our systems a top priority. But no matter how much effort we put into system security, there can still be vulnerabilities present.
Purpose
This policy sets forth the reporting and disclosure process that Tachyon Security follow when we discover security vulnerabilities in non-Tachyon Security products and services.
But it also specifies the actions we take when someone notifies us about a vulnerability in our systems and services.
Policy
This policy must clearly state the timeline, actions, and responsibilities equally available to all vendors.
Vulnerability Reporting And Disclosure For Tachyon Security Services And Products
If you discover a vulnerability, we would like to know about it so we can take steps to address it as quickly as possible. We would like to ask you to help us better protect our clients and our systems.
- E-mail your findings to CISO@tachyonsecurity.eu.
- Do not take advantage of the vulnerability or problem you have discovered, for example by downloading more data than necessary to demonstrate the vulnerability or deleting or modifying other people’s data,
- Do not reveal the problem to others until it has been resolved,
- Do not use attacks on physical security, social engineering, distributed denial of service, spam or applications of third parties, and
- Do provide sufficient information to reproduce the problem, so we will be able to resolve it as quickly as possible. Usually, the IP address or the URL of the affected system and a description of the vulnerability will be sufficient, but complex vulnerabilities may require further explanation.
What we promise:
- We will respond to your report within 3 business days with our evaluation of the report and an expected resolution date,
- If you have followed the instructions above, we will not take any legal action against you in regard to the report,
- We will handle your report with strict confidentiality, and not pass on your personal details to third parties without your permission,
- We will keep you informed of the progress towards resolving the problem,
- In the public information concerning the problem reported, we will give your name as the discoverer of the problem (unless you desire otherwise), and
- As a token of our gratitude for your assistance, we offer a reward for every report of a security problem that was not yet known to us. The amount of the reward will be determined based on the severity of the leak and the quality of the report. The minimum reward will be a €50 gift certificate.
We strive to resolve all problems as quickly as possible, and we would like to play an active role in the ultimate publication on the problem after it is resolved.
Vendor Vulnerability Reporting And Disclosure
If a vulnerability is found in a vendor’s product or service, Tachyon Security will attempt to contact the vendor by email to notify the vendor of such discovery. Tachyon Security will initially attempt to create a secure communication channel with the vendor by exchanging PGP keys for encrypted email. If a secure communication channel is successfully created, then an encrypted copy of the vulnerability report will be sent to the vendor through that channel. If no response to the attempt to create a secure communication channel is received by Tachyon Security within seven (7) days, then a description of the vulnerability will be sent by email to the vendor in plain text.
If Tachyon Security discovers a vulnerability in a vendor’s product or service, it will take the following steps:
Actions to be Taken by Tachyon Security | |
---|---|
Day 0 | Initial vendor contact |
Day 7 | Second vendor contact if there is no response to Tachyon Security’s initial communication |
Day 45 | Reminder email sent to the vendor with the release date of the vulnerability report |
Day 60 | If the vendor has not responded or has stopped responding, a final reminder email will be sent |
Day 90 | Disclosure of the full vulnerability report; however, if the vendor releases a patch or mitigation for the vulnerability before the 90th day, then Tachyon Security will disclose the full vulnerability report immediately following vendor’s release of such patch or mitigation |
In the interest of fostering coordinated vulnerability disclosure, Tachyon Security will attempt to work with any vendor on reasonable adjustments to the above timeline if progress is being made and the 90-day default timeline is not adequate for creating a patch or other type of mitigation that addresses the vulnerability. Extenuating circumstances may result in adjustments to the disclosures and timelines when reasonably necessary.
